Wizard Merlin
Lyrics and music by Carlo Audino
You are becoming famous, great
Like an actor in your film
And you stroll with your furry wife
On the high street
Dreaming of donuts, donuts
Dreaming of donuts, donuts
She doesn't care about your debts
and walks away humming softly
He's sick of everyone pulling his leg
and pulling his jeans down, jeans down
Pulling his jeans down
So you complain about violence in the world
Punch the table like a storm in a teacup
What do you want
If you cannot
What do you do
If you don't give
Tongues of fire and evil witches
go down into your coffee
What is wrong with you?
What is wrong with you?
And now
Don't beat a dead horse
Run away with all your past
Nobody needs you anymore
And now
Don't beat a dead horse
Run away with all your past
Nobody needs you anymore
Nobody needs you, oh, anymore
Uh, nobody needs you anymore
Wizard Merlin jumps on the bed
with thunders over the town
Struggling with a nervous breakdown
He sneaks up on Witch Lie
Whispering
No, I can't take it anymore
Give me a little bit of love, please
I don't know
Like two peas in a pod
I should not
Oh Gosh, how distracted I am
I will give you an helping hand
I don't know
In your wheat fields
I should not
Oh, yeah
I don't know
In your wheat fields
I should not
What are you doing?
What do you want?
Get the hell away from me
Wizard Merlin
The great magician
And now
What are you doing?
Don't beat a dead horse
What do you want?
Run away with all your past
Go to hell
Nobody needs you anymore
Wizard Merlin
The great magician
And now
What are you doing?
Don't beat a dead horse
What do you want?
Run away with all your past
Get the hell away from me
Nobody needs you anymore
Wizard Merlin
The great magician
And now
What are you doing?
Don't beat a dead horse
What do you want?
Run away with all your past
Go to hell
Nobody needs you anymore
Wizard Merlin
The great magician
And now
What are you doing?
Don't beat a dead horse
What do you want?
Run away with all your past
Get the hell away from me
Nobody needs you anymore
Wizard Merlin
The great magician

In depth of the lyrics
F not Merlin. Yes, this was the real name of my dear friend during adolescence. He disappeared in the fog probably due to his particular attention to the opposite sex. I loved him very much but he was a very unstable person: first he was firm, then vengeful, sometimes frustrated and then very tender. He reminded me of a cat named Merlin, a grey cat that I used to cuddle in that period. He was a braggart and our friends often laughed at him. Then there were women, (Gosh!) he went crazy when one of them approached him. Even though he had a girlfriend, he always had eyes for other women. Once he took a crush on an eccentric girl (Mrs Witch Lie) who considered him only a friend. They didn’t understand each other: when she pointed to the moon, he looked at her boobs. When finally Wizard Merlin sought affection from her, all the knots came to a head and so he was pushed away again. My poor friend. I like to remember him when in a country house, as often happened, we used to play our songs together to judge each other. What a pity! While I loved playing and singing candlelight in full blackout due to the storm weather that dominated outside, he was scared of the roar of thunder. Despite his flaws, he was a great friend! I still love him, even if he disappeared. When I tried to contact him he avoided me again like a fat cat avoids a Rottweiler, without allowing real friends to understand and help him … and again “run away with all his past”.
Technically speaking
This song has always dragged a lot when I performed it with the band of friends or for the most varied, useless, musical competitions. The chorus in response at the end of the song is interesting: in previous versions I made my sister Alessandra do that part and I think I will soon propose a version of her own (and also in other songs). The arrangement is very Italian songwriter Ivan Graziani style, my historical idol and model since I started playing the guitar. A curiosity was the introduction of the upbeat drums in one of the final choruses dedicated to my son, a lover of heavy metal. In fact, in some concerts I accompanied him (it was Iron Maiden, Saxson, Sistem of a down, Anthrax and Sabaton) and I remember the particular effect that was felt when the drums and the bass went through a few upbeats: the homage to mine ” small “is a must 😉
